GARAND BARLOW (33) – Tall, large build, quick tempered, dangerous.

Garand met Sally Deakins when he was in his early twenties and fell hard for her. he managed to win her over and they were married when they were both 23 years old. Despite his charming outward apearance, Sally’s brother Roger and his best friend David never really trusted him. And sure enough, Garand's true self eventually reared its ugly head.

Sally took the beatings in silence until she discovered she was pregnant with Garand's child. Hoping to make him go easy with his fists, she told Garand the news. Instead of a celebration, he beat her nearly to death and stabbed her in the stomach with a kitchen knife. Leaving her for dead, he ran. Several months later, she had a miscarriage.

A fugitive for two weeks, Garand was eventually caught and sentenced to fifteen years for the attempted murder of his wife. David, Roger, and Sally all testified against him and he was shipped off to San Quentin Prison. During his time inside, Garand has had ample opportunity to reflect on what he would like to do to the three of them when he gets out. He’ll get his chance soon enough.

DAVID KAPLAN (38) – Highly intelligent, passionate, workaholic.

David has worked for several years as an astronomy professor at UC Berkeley, hoping to eventually make tenure. But his first published work was met with controversy rather than success. The theories he put forth in that work were definitely outside the box, but no one realized at the time just how deadly accurate they were.

David is a man obsessed with his work. He puts it before all else, even at the expense of himself and others. As time progresses and it eventually becomes clear that David’s theories about an impending environmental disaster are spot-on, people begin to take notice. The only question now is whether they will take action before its too late.

SALLY DEAKINS (32) – Slender, attractive, independent, headstrong.

As a girl, Sally was very quiet and introspective. Even though she was quite attractive, many boys were put off by her insecurity. But many others -- like Garand -- recognized it and abused it. Their wedding day was the happiest day of her life, but unfortunately her bliss only lasted for about six months.

After losing her baby as a result of Garand’s final attack, Sally became a force to be reckoned with. No longer willing to be trampled on, she took control of her life. She began dating David and the two eventually moved in together. But as David became more and more involved in his work and less involved in their life together, she recently made the difficult decision to leave him until he could get his act together.

ROGER DEAKINS (31) – Offbeat sense of humor, loyal, determined.

Roger works as a paramedic in Berkeley. He entered the profession after discovering his sister left for dead on her kitchen floor. His lack of medical knowledge left him feeling helpless as he waited for an ambulance to arrive, and he vowed never to be in that situation again. After completing his medical degree, he took it one step forward and joined the Berkeley Fire Department.

Even though he is a prankster at heart, he is intensely loyal to his friends and family and looks out for David and Sally at all costs. He and his best friend Frank frequently find themselves crossing paths on the job.

FRANK NELSON (35) – Authoratative, headstrong, no nonsense.

Frank is a police officer in Berkeley. He and Roger have been friends for many years and have an excellent working relationship as well. Frank is a large man who carries his sense of authority everywhere he goes, even when he's out of uniform. He can be a little difficult and single minded sometimes, but he's always willing to listen to reason.

As society begins to collapse around him during the solar flare, he begins to take his role as protector very seriously. When David, Roger and Sally find themselves on the run with Garand not far behind, Frank doesn't hesitate to join them.
